How Polyjacking Works

The process typically takes just a few hours and requires only a small crew.

1. Drilling: Technicians drill small, dime-sized (usually 5/8" or 3/8") injection holes in strategic locations across the settled slab.
2. Injection: A specialized, two-part polyurethane mixture is pumped through these ports.
3. Expansion & Lifting: The components mix just before injection and rapidly expand to fill gaps and lift the heavy concrete.
4. Curing: The foam cures completely in about 15 minutes, allowing you to walk or drive on the concrete almost immediately.

Polyjacking is a popular alternative to traditional mudjacking (which uses a heavy cement slurry) and full slab replacement.

• Cost-Effective: It is often a fraction of the price of tearing out and repouring a new slab.
• Lightweight: Polyurethane foam weighs only about 2 to 4 lbs per cubic foot, meaning it adds minimal extra weight to unstable or settling subsoils.
• Waterproof & Inert: The cured foam is hydrophobic (repels water) and inert, so it won't wash away, deteriorate over time, or leach chemicals into the surrounding soil or groundwater.
• Smaller Holes: The injection ports are significantly smaller than the large holes required for mudjacking, making the finished repair much less visible.

Limitations and Considerations

While polyjacking is highly effective, it may not be suitable for every situation.

• Severely Damaged Concrete: If a slab is shattered into many small, disconnected pieces, the jacking process can actually make the breaks worse.
• Underlying Soil Issues: If the settlement is caused by ongoing problems—such as broken plumbing lines, persistent erosion, or poor drainage—the polyjacking fix might only be temporary unless the source of the water or soil issue is resolved.
• Structural Damage: Injecting expanding foam too close to foundation walls requires significant expertise, as the expanding pressure could cause structural issues.
